India is going to set up the World's Largest Solar Telescope in Ladakh district of Jammu and Kashmir. The proposed budget of the project is Rs.300 crore and this will be contributed to monitor entire Solar system's weather conditions ,formation and decaying of Sun's spots, and their subsurface structures.
The current largest telescope is Mcmath- Pierce Solar telescope with an aperture size of 1.6 meter is located in Kitt Peak National Observatory Arizona in US, and India is supposed to set up with 2 meter aperture size. The construction work will start in this year and it is supposed to be in Hanle or Merak which is near to Pangong lake which is actually in the Line of Control of China and planned to complete by 2017. By then, India will host world's largest solar telescope. This will remain the world's largest telescope at least till 2020, by which US is planning to set another one with 4 meter telescope.
