0 Introduction to ERP - Peoplesoft

It’s been 2 years since I am with my first employer in a professional environment. The journey so far has been so splendid that I came across working on single platform. It’s a boon that I got my first project into a solid technology better call a platform called ERP. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is nothing but the software to facilitate the flow of information between all business functions inside the boundaries of the organization and manage the connections to outside stakeholders. To be simple in layman terms, it helps to maintain end to end information of the organization.

Among many of the existing applications of ERP, PeopleSoft has its own beauty in the solutions such as HR and Finance as major and Supply Chain (SCM), customer relationship management (CRM), Enterprise Performance Management software (EPM), as well as software solutions for manufacturing, enterprise performance management, and student administration to large corporations, governments, and organizations.

I got to work on PeopleSoft since my first project. We have been given training on ‘People Tools’ which is the proprietary language for PeopleSoft and it is the basis for building applications. It consists of many different components to create web application such as People Code a scripting language, Application Designer, a tool to design the web pages, batch processing , Security Architecture, and ability to interface with SQL database. I will discuss in detail about each of the components which we will be using for developing the application at a developer point of sight. Meanwhile have the taste of PeopleSoft in People Books which is a online library for PeopleSoft developers.
